With this technique, a vertebra that is misaligned is gently pushed back into its proper position. During this process, a light popping sound may be heard as a small gas bubble, which is trapped between the joints, is released in a similar fashion to when you crack your knuckles.
See article “Does Knuckle Cracking Lead to Arthritis of the Fingers?” to see that cracking your knuckles does not lead to arthritis.
Many people do not realize that almost every joint in the body can be adjusted. We tend to do the same activities over and over again, which can eventually lead to an overuse injury. Commonly misaligned joints include the: knee, elbow, wrist, hip, ankle and shoulder.
Acupuncture works by using needles to access the Qi (pronounced “chee”) or vital energy at acupuncture points. The energy is then adjusted to restore the proper flow of energy through the meridians, or pathways for Qi in the body. Meridians are similar to little energy highways in the body. Whenever Qi is stuck in a specific area, something happens like a traffic jam on a highway, and that part of the body will respond, becoming painful or will show some other type of symptom. Similarly, when there is not enough Qi flowing in a certain meridian, symptoms such as weakness and fatigue may occur, signaling that not enough nourishment is being circulated to all or part of the body.
The following are conditions that respond well to acupuncture:
- Acute and chronic pain anywhere in the body
- Headaches and migraines
- Muscle spasms and contractures
- Anxiety, stress
- Frozen shoulder
- Cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine syndromes
- Bursitis, tendonitis, tendonosis, carpal tunnel
- Sprains, strains and contusions
- Plantar fascitis
- Drug detoxification
- Wrinkles and fine lines
- Neuralgias (trigemnial , Herpes Zoster, postherpetic, other)
- Irritable bowel, GERD
- Vertigo (Meniere’s), tinnitus
- In fractures, assisting in pain-control, edema, and enhancing healing process
- Dysmenorrhea, pelvic pain
- Allergic sinusitis
- Persistent hiccups
- Constipation, diarrhea
Non-surgical Spinal Decompression
Throughout the day we load our discs and joints with gravity, purses, and backpacks. Due to microtrauma, or the trauma of a car accident or sports injury, disc herniations or bulges commonly occur. Symptoms of a herniated disc include: neck pain, low back pain or pain, numbness, burning or tingling down the arms or legs (sciatica).
By using spinal decompression, we are able to suction water, oxygen and nutrients back into the disc. This machine provides a successful treatment protocol to the patient who has tried “everything”, and still remains in pain.
Impulse Instrument Adjusting (similar to the Activator)
This technique utilizes a tool to apply a light force adjustment – great for patients who would like to avoid an adjustment involving “popping” and rotation, or a patient with osteoporosis or osteopenia.
Here at Azul Wellness, we offer our patients a variety of massages, to fit your needs:
- Deep Tissue
- Sports Massage
- Trigger Point Therapy
- Pre-Natal Massage
A gentle technique that helps breakup adhesions in the muscle and increases blood flow to the area of treatment. This works well for joint and muscle problems throughout the body.
With this technique a special tape is applied to reduce inflammation, swelling, and pain; while also increasing the functionality of the muscle. You may have seen this bright colored tape during the Summer Olympics on the athletes of the U.S. Women’s Volleyball Team. The tape allows you to move as you would normally, but gives your body extra support to allow it to heal faster and prevent injuries in areas that are weak.
Stretching & Rehabilitative Strengthening
It is important to make sure that each set of opposing muscles is balanced in the body. When there is imbalance, your body is more susceptible to injury and may already be incurring damage to your muscles, joints, ligaments, and tendons. We utilize stretching on tight muscles and strengthening of weak muscles to keep your body at peak performance.
